Jonah and Dad Enjoy Family Reading Night

Title One Family Reading Night

Thirty-two second grade through fourth grade students and their families attended the Title I Family Reading Night. The meeting was held Thursday, March 27, 2008.   R & D Foods provided cheese trays, relish trays and bottled water which was sponsored with Title II Grant money.

Students and their parents went to their classrooms for various activities.  Second grade students read books with their parents and completed quizzes on the computer for the Accelerated Reader Program. Next students shared some poems/songs from the book, “Bathtub Stories”.   Third grade students read with and/ to their parents from the “We Both Read” books. They also played Frog Games which practiced reading, math, and social studies skills.

Finally, fourth grade students presented some chorale reading selections, including Honeybees.  The girls wore crowns representing the queen bee, while the boys wore helmets for the worker bees. Students and parents then shared joke books, and made a joke wheel to take home with them. Those attending will receive a free book, when the order arrives.   These books were purchased with Bonus points, earned with Title I funds.

Teachers attending were as follows: Brenda Sparrow, Title I teacher; Cathy Jones, second grade teacher, Arlynn Hitz and Laurie Myers, third grade; Kathy Kendall and Cindy Jones, fourth grade. Lynne Ward, parent coordinator, helped with invitations, and ordering food.
