NEWS RELEASE

 

A Special Meeting of the La Harpe Board of Education was held on Tues., Aug. 5th. Present were Dan Horton, Mark Irish, Rex Huston, and Deanna Stambaugh. Supt. Jo Campbell, Prin. Lila McKeown and Jeanne Clayton were recognized as visitors.

 

The board accepted with regrets the resignation of Martha Bartlett from the position of School Counselor/Special Ed. Coordinator, and moved to employ Angie McConnell as Pre-Kindergarten teacher and Valerie Dittmer for the part-time position of Special Ed. Coordinator.

 

The La Harpe School Board held a regular meeting Tuesday night, August 19th, in the School District Library.  School board members in attendance were Dan Horton, Ricky Johnson, Pam Campbell, Rex Huston, Mark Irish, and Deanna Stambaugh.  Also present were Supt. Jo Campbell, Prin. Lila McKeown and Jeanne Clayton.

 

The Board was given a guided tour of the main building by Prin. McKeown who pointed out recent improvements and work done over the summer.  Preschool Screening was held on Aug. 11, and Registration on Aug. 12th.  Boys Baseball has begun and Back-to-School Night was a success. Teacher meetings were held on the Teachers Institute days including a "Reach for the Stars" Olympic theme competition, which was greatly enjoyed.

 

The board accepted with regrets the resignation of Tracy Link and moved to employ Madena Stauffer-Chuvala as Junior High Science teacher, Christina Ellefritz as sub cook or aide, and Randy Shumaker as bus driver.

 

In other business, the board approved the minutes from the June 22nd regular and Aug. 5th special meetings, the financial report and payment of bills, moved to leave the FY08 closed session minutes sealed, and accepted the preliminary FY09 Budget.  The Budget Hearing is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Sept. 16.
