The seventh graders have been reading the novel "Freak the Mighty" by Rodman Philbrick. This novel is about two junior high students who get made fun of because of their physical characteristics. Max is a tall, strong boy who has learning problems. Kevin has a disease where his bones have stopped growing, while his organs continue to grow. Kevin is also very intelligent. Despite their differences, these two boys become great friends. They form an incredible bond and become "Freak the Mighty."
"Freak the Mighty" has some wonderful lessons. It is a touching story of how these boys use their differences to complement one another. The seventh graders love this novel. It is their favorite in seventh grade!
