Hancock County Tournament
LaHarpe/Dallas City Claims Baseball Tournament Title
The LaHarpe/Dallas City junior high baseball team laid claims to the Hancock County Tournament baseball championship this past week. On Saturday, August 27th, the Eagles kicked off the 8-team tourney with a 12-3 win over the Hamilton Cardinals. Jensen Corzatt threw a complete-game 2-hitter to lead the Eagles. He struck out 6 along the way. Jacob Douglas led the offense with a 3-3 performance, including a double and 5 RBI's. Kyle Tanner added a double and 2 RBI's in the win. Spencer Ferguson also had a double, while Corzatt also collected a single and an RBI. Dawson Ryner and Kyle Baker had an RBI apiece as well in the victory.
The 1st round win moved the Eagles into the semi-finals, where they battled Mendon (Unity). LH/DC claimed a 5-1 win in the semis, riding another fine pitching performance, this time turned in by Spencer Ferguson. He also threw a complete-game 2-hitter, with 6 strikeouts. Douglas again led the offense with 2 hits, including a double and an RBI. Aden Trout had 2 hits and an RBI as well. Ethan Johnson, Dawson Ryner, and Kyle Tanner added one hit each in the win. Ryner collected 2 RBI's, while Ferguson also pitched in with one RBI.
The championship game was set for Monday, August 29th, and pitted LH/DC against the West Prairie Cyclones. In a back-and-forth contest, the Eagles ultimately came out on top, with a 12-8 victory. Jacob Douglas and Dawson Ryner combined for the win on the mound. Ryner picked up the win in relief, throwing a stellar 3 innings, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 5 during his stint. Kyle Tanner led the hit parade with 3 hits. He had 2 triples and an RBI to spark the offense. Jensen Corzatt collected 2 hits and 3 RBI's, while Ryner also added 3 RBI's. Jacob Douglas had a hit and 2 RBI's, with Spencer Ferguson and Cory Hopper also adding one hit apiece. The championship was the 2nd Hancock County Title in a row for the Eagles.
