Red Ribbon Week 2011
November 13, 2011
Last week the LaHarpe Jr. High and Elementary School celebrated National Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life. Each year, the Jr. High students celebrate Red Ribbon Week by having special dress -up days. Monday's slogan was "Partner Up for a Life Without Drugs, and the students could dress alike with a "twin". Tuesday's slogan was "We Can Be Anything We Want to Be-DRUG FREE" The students were allowed to wear costumes on this day. Wednesday's slogan was "Get Comfy Without Drugs" and students could wear pajama pants/sweats. On Thursday, we were "Drug Free and Proud of It" This was the day the entire school wore red in support of leading a drug free life. Mrs. Sholl's 7th grade health class was in charge of taking the younger elementary students out to the front fence to tie a red ribbon, and the rest of the student body followed suit.. Drug awareness bracelets were given out to Jr. High students, and the elementary students received ribbons. There were daily drawings for prizes, pumpkin decorating contests, poster contests, and general lessons about drug awareness. The students and staff did an excellent job of showing their support for such a worthwhile awareness program.
