8th to Illini West

November 07, 2017

Illini West High School is beginning the process of planning for next year's academic programs.  Carthage, Dallas City, and LaHarpe 8th graders will be spending the day at Illini West on November 29.  During this time, they will take the PSAT8/9, the Scholastic Reading inventory (SRI) placement test, receive information about IWHS, have lunch served by the student council, and tour the  building.  The PSAT8/9 test is a paper and pencil test that evaluates students' level of performance in math, reading, writing, and language.  The PSAT8/9 will take place in the University of Illinois Extension Center in Carthage.  Students will need to bring a calculator.  

The placement testing involves a computer based reading assessment and a writing prompt.  Students who perform below grade level in reading will be required to enroll in a reading class along with English I.  

Here is the schedule for November 29th:

  • 8:25- 8th graders arrive at the Hancock County Extension Building
  • 8:30  PSAT8 Testing begins
  • 12:00- PSAT8 Testing concludes
  • 12:00-12:10  Shuttles bring students to IW
  • 12:10-12:40  Lunch served by student council
  • 12:40-12:45- Separate into 2 groups
  • 12:45-1:30-  Group 1 SRI testing; Group 2 tour and information
  • 1:30-2:15- Group 1 tour and information'; Group 2 SRI testing
  • 2:15-2:20- Wrap up and board bus to head bak
